DHAKA, Oct 12, 2025: A total of 15 army officers, against whom the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has issued arrest warrants for crimes against humanity, were taken into custody on 9 October, the Bangladesh Army confirmed.
During a media briefing at the Dhaka Cantonment on Saturday, Maj Gen Md Hakimuzzaman, Adjutant General of the Army, said that one officer, Maj Gen Kabir, has not yet been detained.
“The Army Headquarters has alerted the authorities concerned to ensure he cannot leave the country,” he added.
Maj Gen Hakimuzzaman said the army acted immediately upon learning about the warrants but has not yet received official copies of them. The detained officers will be handed over to the ICT by 22 October, he said.
On 8 October, the ICT prosecution filed charges of crimes against humanity against 28 people, including 25 former and current army officers, for their alleged involvement in enforced disappearances and custodial torture during their command.
A three-member ICT-1 bench, headed by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, took cognisance of four charges and issued arrest warrants for all 28 accused.
Among the 25 army officers facing arrest warrants, nine are retired, one is on leave preparatory to retirement (LPR), and 15 are currently in service, according to sources.
