Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar said on Sunday that nearly 32,000 headmaster posts in primary schools across the country are currently vacant, creating a major challenge in school management.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after inaugurating the newly constructed playground of Bagbari Choubari Government Primary School in Katuli Union of Tangail Sadar Upazila.
Dr Bidhan said a large-scale teacher recruitment notice has already been issued to address the shortage, expressing hope that this will make the primary education system more efficient and dynamic.
He also noted that schools cannot be shut down due to uncertain situations such as earthquakes. “Earthquakes can occur anytime. What we need now is caution and proper preparation, not panic,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque, Tangail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahin Mia, and officials from various departments attended the event.
