A total of 943,050 members of various forces will be deployed to maintain law and order during the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and referendum.
Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah disclosed the information at a briefing held at a city hotel on Sunday in the presence of heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of UN agencies in Bangladesh and senior government officials.
According to a press release signed by EC Secretariat Director (Public Relations) and Information Officer Md Ruhul Amin Mallick, around eight lakh officials will be engaged directly in election duties. Among them are 69 returning officers, 598 assistant returning officers, 42,779 presiding officers, 247,482 assistant presiding officers and 495,764 polling officers. In addition, around 15,000 officials will be assigned to postal voting activities.
After presenting the election-related statistics, the election commissioner responded to various questions from diplomats.
Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, other election commissioners, heads of 41 diplomatic missions, representatives of 11 UN agencies, and senior government officials were also present at the briefing.
