The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has secured victory in all three parliamentary constituencies in Gopalganj, marking a historic win in a district long considered a stronghold of the Awami League since independence.
This is the first time BNP has achieved such a sweeping victory in Gopalganj. Previously, the party had won only once in the district — in the 15 February 1996 election — when Sharfuzzaman Jahangir was elected from Gopalganj-1 (Constituency No. 215).
In the 13th parliamentary election, BNP candidates were unofficially declared winners in all three constituencies. In Gopalganj-1 (Constituency No. 215), BNP nominee Selimuzzaman Mollah won with 68,867 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Md Kabir Mia of Gono Odhikar Parishad, who received 53,961 votes.

In Gopalganj-2 (Constituency No. 216), BNP nominee KM Babar secured 40,048 votes. His closest competitor, BNP rebel candidate MH Khan Manju, received 33,039 votes. 13 candidates contested in the constituency.
Gopalganj-2 has 384,324 registered voters, including 194,062 male voters, 190,258 female voters, and four voters listed under the third gender category. The constituency has 151 polling centres.
In Gopalganj-3 (Constituency No. 217), BNP candidate SM Jilani won with 60,166 votes, defeating his nearest rival Govinda Chandra Pramanik, who secured 33,867 votes.

The results were unofficially announced by District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Md Arif-Uz-Zaman.
Earlier, leaders and activists of the district BNP and its affiliated organisations, led by Gopalganj-2 candidate KM Babar, brought out a victory procession from the office of the assistant returning officer and Sadar upazila nirbahi officer to the office of the district returning officer.
Speaking to journalists afterward, Babar said he would fulfill all the promises he had made before the election. He also pledged to ensure even greater development in Gopalganj than in the past under the leadership of the BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.
He further sought cooperation from all to maintain peace, security, and development in Gopalganj in the future. Later, he congratulated the voters of Gopalganj for electing BNP candidates in all three constituencies.
