The Election Commission on Friday said the voter turnout in the 13th national parliamentary election stood at 59.44 %.
The information was formally disclosed at around 11:30am at the Election Commission Secretariat by the EC’s public relations director.
He said the turnout figure was calculated based on data received from polling centres across the country.
Although final reports from a few isolated centres are yet to be received, the overall turnout has remained stable at 59.44 %, he added.
According to EC sources, voter turnout this time was around 18 % higher than in the previous 12th national parliamentary election. Commission officials attributed the increased participation to a favourable law and order situation and improved administrative preparedness.
The Election Commission said detailed centre-wise statistics would be published later.
