DHAKA, Oct 12, 2025: Experts say Bangladesh needs to improve its halal industry to compete better in the global market. The global halal market is worth about $3 trillion and could grow to $9.45 trillion by 2034. Currently, Bangladesh exports only around $850 million worth of halal products, mostly from agriculture.
The main problems are the lack of a strong halal certification system, fewer modern labs, and not enough skilled workers. Officials from the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) want Bangladesh to create a single, trusted halal certification board and use modern technology to improve products and certification processes.
Dr. Mominul Islam from IUBAT noted that over 300 Bangladeshi institutions already have halal certification, but a national halal authority is needed for better coordination between government bodies, schools, and industries. He also said halal education should be added to school and university programs. Learning from countries like Malaysia and Indonesia, Bangladesh should build a national halal brand to attract more buyers.
The experts also suggested organizing big halal trade shows and public-private partnerships to help the industry grow. They believe that with shared effort, technology, and care, Bangladesh can make its halal products known globally and gain economic benefits.
Leaders from various government and business groups, including DCCI, Bangladesh Accreditation Board, Islamic Foundation, and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution, joined the discussion.
