Bangladesh and Kuwait have agreed to deepen collaboration across political, economic, defence, labour, development, and cultural sectors, during the first-ever Bangladesh-Kuwait political consultation held in Dhaka on Sunday.
The meeting was co-chaired by Md Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry Secretary (Bilateral), and Ambassador Sameeh Essa Johar Hayat, Kuwait’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs. Both sides reaffirmed historic ties dating back to Kuwait’s recognition of Bangladesh in 1973.
Key decisions include holding biennial political consultations, promoting high-level visits, and enhancing trade, investment, and manpower cooperation. Defence collaboration was discussed, covering training, disaster response, and cybersecurity, and pending MoUs were reviewed.
Bangladesh invited Kuwaiti investors to explore opportunities in special economic zones and hi-tech parks, while both nations agreed to reactivate the Joint Trade Committee and hold a Bangladesh-Kuwait Business Forum in 2026. Cooperation in renewable energy, climate-resilient infrastructure, and aviation connectivity was also emphasized.
The consultation highlighted education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, including a planned MoU between the Bangladesh Foreign Service Academy and Kuwait Diplomatic Institute. Both sides pledged continued cooperation in multilateral forums, including the UN and OIC, and reaffirmed support on humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives.
The consultations reflected a shared commitment to a forward-looking partnership guided by mutual respect and sustainable development under Kuwait Vision 2035.
