Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has requested France’s support to strengthen Bangladesh’s Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The request came during a meeting with French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Dhaka. Both sides discussed boosting fire service capabilities, earthquake preparedness, election security, social media misinformation, diplomatic zone safety, and fire investigation capacity.
Jahangir highlighted the need for skilled manpower, modern fire safety equipment, and advanced tools for earthquake rescue operations. He also requested technical support to improve fire accident investigations. The Ambassador assured full cooperation and suggested sending a formal proposal via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On election security, the Home Adviser said law enforcement agencies have been trained and preparations are in place for free, fair, and impartial polls. He also noted measures against misinformation and confirmed that security in diplomatic zones has been strengthened.
Officials from both Bangladesh’s Home Ministry and the French Embassy were present at the meeting.
