Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will deploy more than 37,000 members in 489 out of 495 upazilas across the country to ensure border security and maintain law and order during the upcoming National Election.
BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui disclosed the plan during his visit to Cox’s Bazar to review the overall law and order and security situation ahead of the polls, according to a press release issued on Tuesday.
He said BGB members would also be deployed as both mobile and static forces in 300 parliamentary constituencies across the country, considering potential security risks.
During the visit, the BGB chief held a coordination meeting with the local civil administration and representatives of various law enforcement agencies.
At the meeting, Major General Siddiqui said BGB, as a professional, disciplined and politically neutral force, is fully prepared to carry out all duties assigned during the elections. He stressed that the force would work in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe, peaceful and fear-free voting environment.
He added that BGB members have been given necessary training, special briefings, legal guidelines, codes of conduct and STX exercises to effectively manage election-related situations.
To deal with any emergencies, arrangements have been made for the use of BGB helicopters, Quick Response Forces (QRF), Rapid Action Teams (RAT), K-9 dog squads, drones and body-worn cameras, the BGB chief said.
