Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) and Thales Alenia Space have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to improve the country’s Earth Observation (EO) systems and satellite imagery use for national development.
The agreement was signed on Tuesday at the Posts and Telecommunications Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat. The event was attended by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, and Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro.
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said advanced satellite technology will strengthen disaster management, agriculture, climate monitoring and national security. He also highlighted job opportunities for technology graduates and stressed the need for a National Satellite Image Repository.
The MoU will support capacity building, knowledge sharing and pilot projects using EO data.
Ambassador Alessandro said the partnership will help Bangladesh advance its technological capabilities by combining optical and radar-based satellite observation suited for the country.
Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Abdun Naser Khan, BSCL Managing Director Dr Muhammad Imadur Rahman and officials from Thales Alenia Space were also present.
