DHAKA, Sept 18, 2025: Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus will travel to New York on September 22 to attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He is scheduled to deliver Bangladesh’s official statement on September 26 and hold several bilateral meetings with global leaders on the sidelines.
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP leader Humayun Kabir, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syeed Abdullah Muhammad Taher and NCP leader Akhter Hossen will be part of the Bangladesh delegation. Senior officials including Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder will also accompany him.
In his speech, Prof Yunus is expected to outline the government’s activities over the past year and emphasize its commitment to democratic reforms and elections in February next year.
The UNGA General Debate will run from September 23 to 27 and 29, under the theme “Better Together”. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed the importance of unity, while UNGA President Annalena Baerbock called for global solidarity and collective action.
