The Coast Guard has seized a large quantity of Indian medicines worth Tk 1.20 crore in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira, officials said today.
Lieutenant Commander Md. Muntasir Ibne Mohsin, Media Officer of Coast Guard West Zone, confirmed the information this morning.
Acting on secret intelligence that smugglers were bringing medicines from India to Bangladesh, a special team from Coast Guard Station Kaikhali carried out a drive in Mirgang and nearby areas under Shyamnagar Police Station.
During the operation, the medicines, brought in without paying customs duty, were seized, the officer said.
He added that the Coast Guard will continue such drives in the future to prevent smuggling.
