Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarker has indicated that the Election Commission (EC) could receive a letter for administering the oath to newly elected Members of Parliament today.
Speaking to reporters at 11:30am on Sunday (15 February), Anwarul Islam said, “The commission may receive a letter regarding the swearing-in process today and that all arrangements for the MPs’ swearing-in have been taken.”According to parliamentary sources, the swearing-in ceremony for the new MPs-elect will take place on Tuesday morning at the South Plaza of the National Parliament House. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddi will administer the oath.
Meanwhile, sources from the Cabinet Division said that the swearing-in of the new Cabinet will take place on the same day at 4:00pm, with President Mohammed Shahabuddin administering the oath.
In the 13th National Parliamentary elections, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured an absolute majority. Under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, the party is set to form the government after two decades.
