DHAKA, Sept 23, 2025 : The government has taken all possible measures to ensure peaceful and festive celebrations of the five-day Durga Puja beginning on September 28, said Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today.
“This year’s Durga Puja will be celebrated with due religious fervor, sanctity and festivity. There is no security concern,” the home adviser told reporters after reviewing the overall preparations.
According to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, a total of 32,990 puja mandaps have been set up across the country for the festival, which will continue till October 2. The interim government has allocated Tk 5 crore this year, compared to Tk 4 crore last year, along with 500 kilograms of rice for each mandap.
A detailed security plan has been chalked out after meetings with all stakeholders. Security will be ensured in three phases—pre-puja, during puja including idol immersion, and post-puja—with deployment of around 3 lakh Ansar personnel, 80,000 volunteers, as well as members of police, RAB, BGB, Coast Guard and the armed forces.
Special arrangements have been made for border, coastal and riverside mandaps, with BGB, Navy, Coast Guard and River Police tasked with additional responsibilities. CCTV cameras, regular patrols and striking forces will reinforce security, while a newly developed mobile app will allow prompt reporting of any untoward incident.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam said SWAT, the Crime Response Team (CRT), Bomb Disposal Unit, and monitoring cells at police headquarters will remain on high alert throughout the celebrations.
Calling upon all not to pay heed to rumours, the home adviser sought cooperation from all quarters for peaceful celebrations. “We hope this year’s Durga Puja will be much better than the previous year,” he added.
