Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Anwarul Islam Sarker today warned that any candidate who breaks the electoral code of conduct in the upcoming national elections will lose their candidacy.
“Strict action will be taken if the code of conduct is violated. The Election Commission will not spare anyone. If any candidate violates the rules, his or her candidature will be cancelled,” he said.
Sarker made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop titled “Identifying and overcoming challenges of polling officials in the election process” at Saira Garden in Bandar upazila this afternoon.
He said the Commission is committed to holding a free, fair, and neutral election, and there will be no negligence in organising it.
He also said posters will not be allowed during the election period. “We will be strict on this as soon as the election schedule is announced. Steps will be taken to ensure a level playing field for all candidates,” he added.
Director General of the Electoral Training Institute (ETI) Md Hasanuzzaman, Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Md Raihan Kabir, Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman Munshi, Deputy Secretary Md Mustafa Hasan, and Regional Election Officer Yunus Ali were also present at the event.
