Dhaka, Sept 27, 2025 — The five-day Durga Puja, the largest festival of Bangalee Hindus, begins Sunday (Sept 28) with Maha Shashthi and ends October 2 with idol immersion on Bijoya Dashami.
This year, devotees believe Goddess Durga will arrive on an elephant. Idol makers are giving final touches to life-size clay figures of Durga slaying Mahishasura, while temples and mandops prepare with decorations, lights, and devotional music.
In Dhaka, major sites like Dhakeshwari Temple, Ramakrishna Mission, Ramna Kali Mandir, Shankhari Bazar, Jagannath Hall, and others are nearly ready.
Nationwide, 33,355 mandops—including 258 in Dhaka—will host the festival, an increase from last year. The government has allocated Tk5 crore, and law enforcement agencies, backed by volunteers, will provide security. A central control room at Dhakeshwari Temple will monitor arrangements.
Authorities have instructed ministries to ensure safe, peaceful celebrations.
