Japan has announced that it will deploy an Election Observer Mission to Bangladesh from February 9 to February 14 to assist efforts aimed at ensuring a transparent and credible general election, scheduled to be held on February 12.
The delegation will be headed by Watanabe Masato, former Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh. The mission will comprise representatives from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka, along with an independent specialist.
During its stay, the team will monitor voting and vote-counting processes and will engage in discussions with the Bangladesh Election Commission as well as with election observation groups from other countries.
According to officials, the initiative reflects Japan’s ongoing commitment to supporting democratic processes in Bangladesh and follows the Election Commission’s decision to allow international observers for the upcoming election.
