Muhammad Asadullah, a ‘Yes’ vote ambassador for the National Citizen Party (NCP) in the Pabna-2 constituency and joint convener of the party’s youth wing, Jatiya Juboshokti, has been arrested in a cheque fraud case.
He was detained at around 1:00am on Friday from his home in Syedpur village under Hatkhali of Sujanagar upazila by police from the Kamalpur outpost.
He was later handed over to Sujanagar Police Station.
Asadullah, son of Akmal Sikdar of Syedpur village, has been serving in the NCP press wing and previously carried out responsibilities under the media sub-committee of the party’s election management committee.
According to sources, he had been convicted in 2024 in a cheque fraud case filed in Jamalpur district and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment along with a fine of Tk300,000. During the 13th parliamentary elections, he was active in campaigning as a referendum ambassador. Although the election concluded, he had remained at his residence.
Police from the Kamalpur outpost detained him late on Friday night and later showed him arrested in the case before sending him to jail.
Officer-in-Charge of Sujanagar Police Station, Mojibur Rahman, said Asadullah was arrested in connection with a 2024 financial loan case in which he was listed as a warrant-accused. Acting on a tip-off, police apprehended him and produced him before the court.
