The government has sent nine senior secretaries and secretaries, who had long been kept as officers on special duty (OSD), into forced retirement, according to separate gazette notifications issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on 20 October.
The officials include Shafiul Azim, AKM Matiur Rahman, Farid Uddin Ahmed, Md Nurul Alam, Md Azizur Rahman, Md Mizanur Rahman, Md Shamsul Arefin, Md Moshior Rahman, and Md Manjur Hossain. The gazette stated that they will receive retirement benefits.
Under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, officials may be retired after 25 years of service without a show-cause notice, with presidential approval. After the 2024 July Uprising, several secretaries from the previous Awami League government were earlier retired, while some senior officials were placed on OSD.
