Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said today that the country’s security situation is stable and there is no security threat centering the 13th parliamentary election scheduled for February 12.
Speaking to journalists at the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Day 2025 programme at Pilkhana, he said the election will be held peacefully despite attempts by certain groups to create disorder.
He assured that the polls will be free, fair, neutral, and credible with full cooperation from all concerned.
Regarding recent incidents, including a bomb blast at a madrasah, he said several associates of the main suspect have already been arrested and efforts continue to detain the key culprits. He also stated that steps are in place to prevent illegal arms smuggling ahead of the election.
The adviser said the Home Ministry and BGB are fully prepared, adding that regular seizures of arms and ammunition are being carried out and border forces are on high alert.
While addressing the BGB Day programme, he highlighted BGB’s key role in border security, law enforcement, and public service, calling it a “three-dimensional force”. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernising the force and improving its capacity.
He instructed BGB personnel to work with honesty and vigilance, prevent drug smuggling and illegal trade, and ensure strict monitoring of sensitive border points. He warned that strong legal action would be taken against smugglers or anyone assisting them.
He urged officers to take care of troop welfare, uphold discipline, and maintain loyalty to the chain of command.
Expressing confidence, he said BGB will continue to protect the country’s borders with professionalism and remain a symbol of public trust.
