Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin today said there will be no manipulated or stage-managed election in the country, so there is no reason for street protests.
“There will be no stage-managed election. There is no need to take to the streets. Insha’Allah, no orchestrated polls will be held,” he told journalists during a visit to the appeal filing centre at the Election Commission Bhaban in Agargaon this morning.
Speaking about appeals against nomination paper decisions, the CEC said the Election Commission will ensure justice at the highest level. He said any candidate whose nomination is accepted or rejected by a returning officer has the right to appeal.
“We believe in justice and we will deliver justice according to the law. The law is the same for everyone,” he added.
The CEC noted that in previous elections there were incidents of violence and bomb blasts during nomination submission. This time, he said, nominations were submitted peacefully across the country, calling it a positive sign.
He also said people are coming from different parts of the country to file appeals, which shows their interest in the election process.
Meanwhile, filing of appeals against acceptance and rejection of nomination papers for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election continued today for the fourth day. The CEC visited the centre around 10:00am.
EC officials said 131 appeals were filed on Wednesday, raising the total to 295 over the last three days. On Tuesday, 122 appeals were filed, while on Monday, 42 appeals were submitted.
After scrutiny on January 4, returning officers declared 1,842 nomination papers valid and rejected 723 out of a total 2,568 submitted across 300 constituencies.
