Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has warned that any attempt to take control of polling centres anywhere in the country will face strict consequences.
Speaking at a law and order coordination meeting at the Mymensingh City Corporation conference room this afternoon, he said no individual or group would receive leniency if they tried to seize a polling station.
He stated that nationwide security arrangements have been strengthened to ensure polling booths remain fully under state control throughout the election period.
To ensure a calm and orderly election environment, the Home Adviser said law enforcement personnel will be deployed with body-worn cameras, while all polling centres will be monitored through CCTV systems. In addition, drones and the Surakhya App will be used to enhance real-time surveillance and security.
“With these measures in place, we are confident that the next general election will be conducted peacefully across the country,” he added.
Referring to the recent fatal incident in Jhenaigati of Sherpur district, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury described it as unfortunate and said directives have already been issued to take preventive steps to avoid similar incidents in the future.
Addressing concerns over possible targeted attacks on journalists, he said there is currently no such threat situation anywhere in the country.
The Home Adviser also noted that operations against illegal firearms have been further intensified, adding that the recovery of illicit weapons is progressing satisfactorily.
