National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has said that Jamaat-led alliance is preparing to form a shadow cabinet aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Asif Mahmud said the proposed shadow cabinet would serve as a watchdog over government activities.
“We are preparing to form a shadow cabinet. It will ensure transparency and accountability and act as a watchdog over overall activities,” he wrote.
A shadow cabinet is typically formed by opposition parties to monitor government performance, propose alternative policies, and hold ministers accountable.
The announcement comes a day after senior Supreme Court lawyer and Jamaat-e-Islami–nominated candidate for the Sunamganj-2 (Dirai-Shalla) constituency, Mohammad Shishir Monir, also proposed forming a shadow cabinet.
In a social media post on Saturday night, he said, “We will form a shadow cabinet, InshaAllah.”
The move signals growing political activity among opposition and emerging parties as they seek to strengthen oversight and present alternative governance frameworks.
Political analysts say forming a shadow cabinet could help opposition parties organise policy positions and increase public engagement.
