The vessel MV Clipper Isadora, carrying 57,203 tonnes of wheat from the United States, has arrived at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port.
The wheat has been imported under a cash purchase agreement (G to G-02) signed under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the governments of Bangladesh and the United States, said a press release.
Bangladesh has already started importing wheat from the US on a government-to-government (G to G) basis. Under the G to G-02 agreement, a total of 220,000 tonnes of wheat will be imported.
MV Clipper Isadora is carrying the second shipment under this contract. Earlier, the first consignment of 56,890 tonnes arrived in the country.
Of the current shipment, 34,320 tonnes will be unloaded at Chattogram Port, while the remaining 22,443 tonnes will be discharged at Mongla Port.
Earlier, under the G to G-01 agreement, Bangladesh had already imported another 220,000 tonnes of wheat.
Sampling and testing of the wheat on board have already begun. After the quality tests are completed, steps will be taken to quickly start unloading the wheat.
