Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday praised the Bangladesh Armed Forces for their key role in national security, development, and nation-building, and urged them to play a historic role in the upcoming national elections and February referendum.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the National Defence Course (NDC) and Armed Forces War Course (AFWC) 2025 at the National Defence College in Mirpur Cantonment, Prof. Yunus highlighted the forces’ support during crises like natural disasters, political unrest, and pandemics. He also acknowledged their contribution to UN peacekeeping missions, which has enhanced Bangladesh’s global image.
He paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War and the heroes of the July Revolution, and called on the nation to pray for BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s speedy recovery.
Congratulating the graduates, he said completing the NDC and AFWC is a major achievement that prepares officers for higher responsibilities in national security, policy-making, strategy, and development. He noted the courses help bridge strategic and operational military levels and equip officers to handle global challenges such as terrorism, climate change, and cyber threats.
Prof. Yunus also stressed Bangladesh’s strategic position in Asia and encouraged officers to use this advantage to promote sustainable growth and development.
