DHAKA, Sept 20, 2025 – The newly issued Cyber Security Ordinance-2025 has introduced strict penalties for online gambling, fraud and deception. Anyone found guilty may face up to two years in prison, a fine of Tk 1 crore or both.
The law states that creating or operating portals, apps, or devices for betting in cyberspace or participating, assisting, encouraging or advertising gambling through platforms such as Facebook, Google, YouTube, WhatsApp, Twitter and TikTok, will be treated as a punishable offense.
Section 20 of the ordinance sets the maximum punishment at two years’ imprisonment or a Tk 1 crore fine.
The High Court has also directed authorities to take strong measures against online gambling. Media outlets—print, electronic, and online—have been instructed to block or remove all gambling gateways, apps, links, websites, and advertisements immediately in the public interest.
