Dhaka, Sept 23, 2025: The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) will extend the operating hours of the Uttara–Motijheel metro rail by one hour from Friday, on a trial basis, to meet growing passenger demand.
DMTCL Managing Director Faruque Ahmed said trains will now start 30 minutes earlier in the morning and continue 30 minutes later at night.
“We had planned to increase both the number of trains and the operating hours earlier, but a manpower shortage delayed it. Now that we’re ready, the new schedule will reduce waiting times, ease road traffic, and increase revenue,” he told reporters.
With the new timetable, train frequency during peak hours will improve, with intervals reduced from 6 minutes to 4.25 minutes.
New Schedule
-
From Uttara: First train at 6:40am (earlier 7:10am); last train at 9:30pm (extended from 9pm).
-
From Motijheel: First train at 7:00am (earlier 7:30am); last train at 10:10pm (extended from 9:40pm).
The extended schedule will run on a trial basis to assess passenger response.
