DHAKA, Oct 12, 2025: The Bangladesh Navy has seized a large quantity of unauthorized fishing nets, trawlers, and fish worth about Tk19 crore in Cox’s Bazar and Kutubdia, during an operation conducted on Friday to protect mother Hilsha.
According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), navy personnel also arrested 235 fishermen for fishing during the government-imposed ban period.
During the drive, the navy seized 11 fishing trawlers, a huge quantity of “Behundi jal”—a stationary or fixed bag net used to trap fish in estuarine waters—and various species of fish, including Hilsha.
The estimated value of the confiscated fishing gear and catches is Tk19 crore, the release added.
The seized fish, nets, and trawlers were later handed over to the Kutubdia Upazila Fisheries Officer for necessary action.
The government has enforced a 22-day ban—from 4 to 25 October—on catching, transporting, storing, marketing, buying, selling, or exchanging Hilsha and other fish species across Bangladesh’s marine fishing zones to ensure safe breeding of mother Hilsha.
