The government has increased the house rent allowance for teachers and employees of MPO-listed non-government educational institutions, according to a gazette notification issued today. The order, signed by Mitu Mariam, Deputy Secretary of the Finance Ministry, confirms that the Finance Division has given its approval for the enhanced benefit.
Under the new decision, MPO-listed teachers and employees will receive 5% of their basic salary as house rent allowance, with a minimum amount of Tk 2,000, effective 1 November 2025. The notification states that the allowance will be adjusted in line with future national pay scales, while maintaining compliance with the existing MPO policies and manpower structures, including:
-
Non-Government Educational Institution (School & College) Manpower Structure and MPO Policy-2021
-
Non-Government Educational Institution (Madrasa) MPO Policy-2018 (amended up to 23 November 2020)
-
MPO Policy-2018 for Vocational, Business Management, Agriculture and Fisheries institutions (amended up to 23 November 2020)
The order clarifies that no arrears will be paid under this allowance. It also instructs strict compliance with financial regulations during disbursement. Any future irregularities will hold the bill-issuing authority accountable.
The notification further states that the concerned administrative ministry must issue a Government Order (GO) and submit four copies to the Finance Division for post-audit endorsement.
