The BNP has called on the interim government to function as a caretaker administration to ensure that the upcoming national parliamentary election in February is free, fair, and acceptable to all parties.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the remarks after a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the state guest house Jamuna. He stressed the need for a neutral administration, urging the removal of Awami League collaborators from the secretariat and their replacement with impartial officials.
Fakhrul also demanded reforms in district administration, neutrality in police appointments and promotions, and the replacement of partisan higher judiciary officials with neutral judges. He noted that while judicial matters fall under the courts, the Chief Adviser bears overall responsibility. BNP Standing Committee members Salahuddin Ahmed and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury were present at the meeting.
