BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is still undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Evercare Hospital, as her health condition remains critical and complicated, according to her personal physician Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.
Speaking at a press briefing at the hospital gate, Dr Zahid said her condition has not improved since she was admitted on November 23 with breathing difficulties caused by a lung infection.
He said Khaleda Zia was first kept in a cabin, then shifted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), and later moved to the ICU due to further deterioration. She is now being monitored round the clock by a medical board comprising specialists from Bangladesh, the UK, and the USA. The board has decided to continue treatment at Evercare Hospital.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman visited her today. Dr Zubaida, as a member of the medical board, also joined a meeting regarding treatment decisions.
Dr Zahid requested prayers from the nation for her recovery and thanked the medical staff for their efforts. He urged party leaders and supporters to remain alert and avoid crowding the hospital, so that her treatment is not disrupted or other patients are not disturbed.
He said the doctors are trying their best and expressed hope that, with Allah’s mercy and medical care, a positive outcome may follow.
