Instances of violations of the electoral code of conduct have been recorded in 257 constituencies out of 300 across the country ahead of the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.
Election Commission (EC) officials said executive magistrates have taken legal action against offenders, filing 176 cases so far and collecting fines totaling Tk 18,26,250 for breaches of election rules.
Md Saiful Islam, Director (Operations) of the National Identity Registration Wing and Member Secretary of the Central Coordination Committee for the referendum and the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Election, shared the information with BSS today.
He said a total of 275 incidents related to violations of the code of conduct have been identified nationwide.
According to him, legal proceedings were initiated in 176 cases following these incidents, and fines amounting to Tk 18,26,250 were realised between January 8 and February 1 as part of the Election Commission’s ongoing measures to ensure a transparent, fair, and credible electoral process.
