The Chattogram Port Authority has requested travel restrictions on 15 employees involved in protests against the leasing of the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT), labeling them as instigators of unrest under the pretext of a movement.
In addition, the authority has asked the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the movable and immovable assets of the employees.
The request was made in a letter signed by CPA Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim and sent to the Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping on Thursday. Copies of the letter were also shared with the ACC, National Security Intelligence (NSI), the Ministry of Home Affairs, and other relevant agencies for appropriate action.
According to the letter, the employees are allegedly engaged in activities against the state, and investigations are already underway. The port authority urged the relevant departments to ensure the travel restrictions are enforced so that the individuals cannot leave the country.
Those mentioned in the complaint include Md Humayun Kabir, coordinator of the Chattogram Port Protection Movement Committee and the Jatiyatabadi Port Workers’ Dal; fellow coordinator Md Ibrahim Khokon; and port employees Md Faridur Rahman, Mohammad Shafi Uddin, Rashidul Islam, Abdullah Al Mamun, Md Jahirul Islam, Khandaker Masuduzzaman, Md Shakil Raihan, Manik Majhi, Md Shamsu Mia, Md Liyakat Ali, Aminur Rasul Bulbul, and Md Rabbani.
Following the start of the movement, 16 employees, including Humayun Kabir and Ibrahim Khokon, were transferred, but they have not reported to their new postings.
Attempts to reach the port secretary for comment were unsuccessful.
