Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed has confirmed that Returning Officers will begin compiling election results from 10:00am on 13 February, following polling on 12 February.
Speaking at the inauguration of a media centre for foreign journalists at Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka on Tuesday (10 February), he assured that while postal ballot counting may take slightly longer, the overall process of result publication will not be delayed.
“For the 12 February election, Returning Officers have already announced schedules for compilation and consolidation starting from 10:00am on 13 February. This means the process will not be prolonged under any circumstances,” he said.
Akhtar Ahmed added that preparations for polling are complete. All ballot papers and election materials for 299 constituencies have been delivered, while voting in one constituency has been postponed due to a candidate’s death.
“Ballot papers have been distributed from Returning Officers’ offices to Assistant Returning Officers and Presiding Officers in a phased manner,” he explained.
Highlighting the significance of the upcoming election, he said, “By voting at 7:30am on 12 February, we will step into a new era and mark a positive beginning.”
On voter lists, the EC Senior Secretary noted that numerous errors have been corrected, although 100 per cent accuracy could not be guaranteed. Special attention has been given to the inclusion of young voters, with all citizens who turned 18 by 31 October 2025 added to the register.
Responding to queries on the mobile phone ban, Akhtar Ahmed said, “Mobile phones are now part of everyday life. To avoid inconvenience or dissatisfaction, we have withdrawn the previous restriction.”
