Mirza Abbas, BNP Standing Committee member and candidate of the “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol from Dhaka-8 constituency, said on Thursday that voting has been peaceful and conducted fairly so far.
However, he warned that any rigging or “engineering” of the vote would not be accepted.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting the “Mirza Abbas Women’s College” polling center in the capital around noon.
“Ensuring the people’s right to vote is everyone’s responsibility. The Election Commission and other authorities must remain vigilant in this regard,” he said.
Mirza Abbas added, “So far, voting is taking place smoothly. No situation that undermines a fair election has been observed. However, any attempt at vote engineering will not be tolerated.”
When asked about allegations that agents of Nasiruddin Patwary, candidate of the “Shapla Kali” symbol, were not allowed into certain polling centers, Mirza Abbas replied that he had no knowledge of the matter.
