A mobile court jailed a young man for two years and fined him Tk10,000 on Thursday after authorities accused him of casting a fake vote at a polling centre in Hossainpur upazila.
The court convicted Imran Mia, 20, son of Abul Kashem of Piplakandi village, at the Piplakandi High School centre.
Local sources said Imran entered the centre to vote on behalf of another person. Officials grew suspicious of his behaviour and detained him for questioning.
A mobile court present at the scene held an immediate hearing and handed down the two-year prison term along with the fine.
The magistrate in charge confirmed the incident but declined to provide further details.
