Jamaat-led 11-party alliance candidate Hasnat Abdullah has secured a sweeping victory in the Cumilla-4 (Debidwar) constituency, winning all 116 polling centres. Following his decisive win, he announced a zero-tolerance policy against extortion, bribery, and corruption in the area.
Speaking to supporters late Thursday night, Hasnat declared an immediate end to extortion in Debidwar.
“From this moment, I declare the grave of extortion in Debidwar. Bribery and corruption will no longer be tolerated in government offices,” he said.
He warned government officials and employees to refrain from engaging in bribery or irregularities and stressed strict action against tender manipulation. Emphasizing his firm stance, he said even personal connections would not be spared if involved in wrongdoing.
Abdullah also urged residents to report anyone attempting to misuse his name or image for corrupt activities and called on business owners, including transport operators and hotel owners, to refuse any illegal demands for money beyond official government fees. He encouraged the public to detain extortionists and inform law enforcement authorities.
Addressing members of law enforcement agencies, Abdullah warned that any official found guilty of corruption would not be allowed to continue working in the constituency. He also issued strong warnings against drug trafficking and illegal tender syndicates.
In addition, he pledged strict measures to prevent unauthorized soil extraction from the Gomti River and said individuals willing to abandon corrupt practices would be supported with alternative employment opportunities.
Abdullah concluded his remarks by promising to establish what he described as an “Insaaf-based society,” or a society based on justice, in Debidwar.
