DHAKA, Sept 21, 2025: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will leave for New York tonight to attend the 80th UN General Assembly (UNGA).
He will arrive on September 22 and deliver his speech at the UNGA on September 26, Chief Adviser’s Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad said. Professor Yunus is scheduled to return on October 2.
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain earlier said that four political leaders will join the Bangladesh delegation: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP leader Humayun Kabir, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syeed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, and NCP leader Akhter Hossen.
In his address, Professor Yunus is expected to highlight the government’s work over the past year and reaffirm its pledge to restore democracy through reforms and free, fair elections in February next year.
The UNGA is also significant for Bangladesh this year as the UN will, for the first time on September 30, host a High-Level Conference on the Situation of Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar.
