Canada has reiterated its support for Bangladesh’s move toward a peaceful, free, fair, and participatory election, said Canadian High Commissioner Ajit Singh in a statement on Saturday.
Welcoming the July National Charter 2025, the envoy said the document lays out key democratic reforms. Diplomats, including the Canadian High Commissioner, witnessed the charter’s signing — described as a major milestone in Bangladesh’s political transition.
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus expressed optimism that a fair and festive national election will be held in February 2025. The charter stresses unity, accountability, and transparent governance.
Canada, a longstanding development partner of Bangladesh, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the country’s democratic journey and good governance efforts.
