Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has said that the Bangladesh Army’s Corps of Engineers will remain actively engaged in national development and infrastructure-building efforts in the coming years.
The army chief made the remarks on Sunday while inaugurating the 9th Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineers and attending the Annual Commanders’ Conference at the Engineer Centre and School of Military Engineering (ECSME) in Kadirabad Cantonment, Natore, according to an ISPR press release.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman attended the ceremony as the chief guest and was received upon arrival by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army Training and Doctrine Command, the Engineer-in-Chief, and the Commandant of ECSME.
During the programme, General Waker-Uz-Zaman was formally inducted as the 9th Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineers. He later addressed commanders and officers, stressing the importance of technological advancement, research, professional skill development, and future planning within the engineering wing of the army.
The army chief paid tribute to martyred members of the Corps of Engineers who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War and honoured all freedom fighters. He praised the Corps for its “glorious legacy” in national development, including infrastructure projects and disaster response operations.
Expressing confidence in the engineering corps, General Waker said the unit would continue to uphold its commitment to the nation by working with integrity, honesty, and a strong sense of duty.
Senior military officials, including the Director General of BIISS, the Adjutant General, the Engineer-in-Chief, the GOC of the 11th Infantry Division and Bogura Area Commander, commanders of engineering brigades, and media representatives, were present at the ceremony.
