The government has approved the purchase of 1 lakh tonnes of rice from international markets at an estimated cost of Tk446.23 crore, the Ministry of Finance said on Wednesday.
Under the plan, 50,000 tonnes of atap rice will be imported from Myanmar through a government-to-government agreement, while another 50,000 tonnes of non-basmati parboiled rice will be procured from Dubai via an open international tender. The Dubai rice, sourced from M/s Credent One FZCO, will cost $355.99 per tonne (Tk216.90 crore), while the Myanmar atap rice will come at $376.50 per tonne (Tk229.33 crore).
Additionally, the government’s procurement advisory council approved the purchase of 35,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser, 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser, and 30,000 tonnes of urea fertiliser.
